Email & the Collaborative Classroom
Email is very quick; a message sent around the world may take only a minute
to get there. Instead of using the phone you can email colleagues, using email
you can send the same message to many people at once using a distribution list.
You can share a whole range of curriculum ideas and materials with other teachers.
Your mail sits in your mailbox on the provider's server. When you connect to
the Internet you can download any messages to your computer using your mail
program (for example Outlook, Eudora).
Using email in the classroom.
Joining a collaborative project with a clear educational focus is a very exciting
and rewarding way to use the Internet. Many collaborative projects rely on email
based communication. You can effectively use email on one machine. Email allows
students to make their own contacts with outside experts whose knowledge is
not available in the local area.
